- It’s worth noting that three Georgia cartoonists were finalists in the Scripps-Howard National Journalism Awards– and none of them was named Luckovich. One Editorial Cartoon finalist was the Rome Tribune’s Mike Lester. Lester’s got a lot of talent and likely won’t toil in Rome for long.
- In the college cartooning category, a SCAD student named Isaac Klunk was a finalist, as was a UGA senior named Bill Richards. Both lost to a Wake Forest University cartoonist named William Warren, a well-trained artist with a firm grasp on the obvious. Maybe he has a bright future. I’m kinda partial to one of the also-rans, whose blog is also linked on the right side of this one.
